"It (The
SCAR) has been needed for a long
time. Its very impressive."
-Siri Moss, Alaska Rock Gym Cofounder
From The
SCAR's Introduction:
In the climbing world, Southcentral
Alaska is best known for Denali (Mt McKinley) and other world class
mountaineering, but a recent explosion in the popularity of rock
climbing has drastically increased the number of easily accessible,
quality routes near Anchorage. The
SCAR catalogs these climbs - both
good and bad - for climbers to test their wits.
With this guide, visitors and new climbers should be able to easily
locate climbing areas and routes while many long time Alaskan climbers
will be surprised by the number of new routes available - three
times that of the old guidebook. Four geographical sections are
included: Seward Highway, Portage, Western Chugach, and parts of
the Matanuska Valley. Incredible, expansive, Alaskan beauty is your
back drop while precipitous cliffs challenge your body and soul.
